Our church is rich with history...The Methodist Church has been a presence in downtown White River Junction since 1877, first meeting in the original Junction House Hotel. When the hotel was destroyed by fire in 1878, the members built the present church (without the more recent renovations) at a cost of $2,700. The church was remodeled in 1915, and a bell was installed in the steeple. Later renovations undertaken in November 1962 widened the front of the church, replaced the front entrance and the open steps with side entrances and steps completely under cover, protected from the weather. The deteriorating steeple was removed and the bell suspended in the remaining portion of the tower. In 1993, a new steeple was erected and an elevator was installed in order to accommodate the handicapped. |
